Unhappy Zimbra in VMware

Hello all

I've searched on the forums for stuff related to zimbra and VMware server but have not found what i'm looking for...

I have installed the OpenSource version of Zimbra into a VM hosted on a CentOS5.2 (x86) host.
Zimbra starts and i can get to the admin page on port 7071.

I'm forwarding the port 25 traffic to the VMware guest but its not getting delivered to the zimbra server.

If i recieve the emails to the host server I DO recieve the emails but when I begin to forward the port 25 traffic to zimbra I get nothing...

I have created the same users as i have on the hosts email server.
I have disabled the fireall completly on the guest os.

Is there a howto on configuring zimbra for usage? (on a single domain?)

Thanks in advance.

There's no difference in setting up Zimbra on VMware than there is on bare hardware. You've probably got a firewall, SELinux, hosts file and/or DNS problem. What error messages are you getting in the log files?

My home zimbra install runs in a VM with no special configuration needed. FYI.

The OP said that port 25 is being forwarded in from the host, so he probably need to setup split DNS config (Split DNS - Zimbra :: Wiki) or forward in the other ports the Zimbra uses. Zimbra expects to see parts itself on the IP address its hostname resolves to. You probably find the mail got through without error, but is sat in the "deferred" queue.

This isn't specific to VMs, as you say. Any Zimbra setup stuck behind a NAT/PAT arrangement needs a split DNS arrangement.

I ran Zimbra successfully on VMWARE with ubuntu installed as the GUEST OS.
It worked fine. You may need to specify a bridged network, disable all firewall and SELInux. It will work just fine.

I will check the Split - DNS info

on the other comments, I do have bridged network specified and I did state on my first post that the firewall was disabled (and SELinux disabled)

I can verify (from a box in the internet) that traffic gets to the zimbra box.

Code:
$ -->telnet testest.com 25
Trying xx.xx.xx.xx
Connected to testest.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail.testest.com ESMTP Postfix
helo
501 Syntax: HELO hostname
quit
221 2.0.0 Bye
Connection closed by foreign host.
