Default Undelivered Mail Message - why ?

Hi all,

I have an admin@server.domain.com account that seems to have been created on setup. It receives the daily mail reports that are automatically generated at 1am. I wanted to receive this report in my email account so i made a simple rule that forwards it to my email.

The second part of this is that I have a blackberry and automatically forward all email received in my zimbra account to my blackberry email. This has worked fine for the last couple of weeks, however the last two days I have not received the report on my blackberry (but received it ok in my zimbra account).

The admin account is getting the following error when trying to send it on to my blackberry address. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this and what a fix would be ? (step by step if possible). All other email I am receiving is forwarding to my blackberry device perfectly, and has been for several months now.

Im on Zimbra 5.06 which is running on Mac OSX (tiger)

Login to the console, and do a
su - zimbra
zmprov gad

You will see your domains. You will see that
server.intranet.domain.com

is not in there.

thanks but I did that command and it shows both server.intranet.domain.com along with domain.com

what does that command mean, and is there anything else i can try ? bearing in mind it is the blackberry address it is having trouble forwarding to

If I'm reading your post correctly, the reason that you're not getting these emails is that Blackberry's server is rejecting the sender's address, not anything on Zimbra itself. It appears that your domain server.domain.com which is showing as the sender domain, probably is not visible to the outside world as plain-old domain.com is. Thus when Blackberry's server tries to do a perfectly normal validation of that address admin@server.domain.com, it can't find the domain let alone the address, so it assumes it's being spammed and rejects the message.

If you add server.domain.com as an alternate mx record in your public DNS I suspect the problem would go away.

thanks dwm that makes sense. Interestingly enough it sent OK to my Blackberry this morning, so it seems that the blackberry servers are sometimes blocking it, sometimes not.

On that note, why is it that the admin and spam accounts get created as admin@server.domain.com rather than the normal @domain.com like all my other addresses?

That depends on what you enter in the settings when you first create your server. The default that is autofilled by the script is server.domain.com, and if you have set up your MX records like any normal person would it also complains about not finding a correct MX record. I found that by deleting the default and just putting in domain.com the gripe about MX went away, and the accounts got created as admin@domain.com and similar. It just has to do with the logic in the install script.

regarding blackberry, unexpectedly bb is refusing mails from bb, like here:

Code:
2008-11-07 00:28:47 bounced (host mx01.bis.eu.blackberry.com[216.9.253.32]
said: 553 #5.1.8 Domain of sender address <network@etp2101.etp.eu.blackberry.net>
does not exist (in reply to MAIL FROM command))
checking for etp2101.etp.eu.blackberry.net you get:
Code:
# host etp2101.etp.eu.blackberry.net
etp2101.etp.eu.blackberry.net has address 93.186.17.50
etp2101.etp.eu.blackberry.net mail is handled by 5 smtp.eu.blackberry.net.
so, you can't rely on what mail servers at blackberry.com declare; maybe they have very busy name servers
