port 7071 not listening OS X install

Greet,

Been trying to play with your new package and ran into a few snags.

Info:
Mac OSX Server 10.4.4 + latest Java
Zimbra zcs-3.0.1_GA_160.MACOSX.dmg

I get throught the install fine.

I start the services:

OK, so zimbra seems to be running (mostly -mailbox) apache is running but I don't see a listener on port 7071. When I connect to port 7780 I just get the welcome apache page. If I go to /Zimbra I get a aspell php page.

What did I miss or what is broken?

Is tomcat running? THat's what serves the UI. I assume not, since port 80 isnt' bound.

went through the install on an os x server 10.4.5. having the same problem of not being able to bring admin on 7071 port. zmcontrol status indicates mailbox is stopped. zmtlsctl https;tomcat restart gives the message 'tomcat not running (pid nnnnn), stale.

this server has the native tomcat running, started from OS X Server Admin.
Does zimbra use its own tomcat? how do i resolve this problem?

yes zimbra includes its own tomcat

I stopped the native Tomcat server and start Zimbra Tomcat. Still the problem with 7071 port not listening. Did not try to look through the logs to see where the problem is since I had to go back to native Tomcat for another live application. Is it better to install Zimbra on a server that has none of the OS X Server applications running (Mail, Application Server/Tomcat, Apache, mySQL, etc.)?

as long as you don't have two things trying to run on the same port, it's up to you. most of the ports that zimbra uses are configurable
