Default Split-DNS behind NAT: ADS as DNS server

Hello,

as I understand, Zimbra needs a DNS server in a NAT'ed environment.
Till today a W2K3 based ADS server is the name server (in an MS-
environment).

Question:
Could that ADS domain-controller not act as a DNS server for ZCS as well?

Thank's a lot for any feedback!

John

Yes that would be fine as long as the server is in their and gets the FQDN aswell, plus the MX record exists and all should be good.

We use our AD controller for our DNS server. (not my idea)

Thank's a lot for you feedback!

Does ZCS need a local DNS-server for resolving- or for authoritative purposes?

Thank you! John

Nope, as long as the A and MX records are in place and you have pointed your /etc/resolv.conf to it you should be just fine. Just ensure your localhost entry is in /etc/hosts.
