Default Zimbra + Exchange cooperation - how to?

Hi guys,

I would like to setup Zimbra to be a backup mail server for our M$ Exchange.

I know this is easily achievable setting it up to forward all caught emails to exchange.

But this is only small part of what I want it to do. Basically, Zimbra will:

1. caught emails while Exchange is down
2. forward emails once exchange is up and running
3. allow all exchange users (basically, whoever has got an account in echange) to connect to webinterface of zimbra and check their emails
4. basically, zimbra will act as emergency backup mail server

So users with email accounts can logon to zimbra to check their emails while the exchange is down or is in maintenance mode or is beeing reinstalled. Once zimbra realizes the exchange is up and running it will forward alle mails back to exchange.

Is this possible with zimbra? Any ideas are appreciated.

Many thanks.

Why not cluster your exchange server ? or just replace it with multi-server ZCS installation

Uxbod,

what a great idea! However I rather not to go that way.

The idea here is not have Zimbra server located elswhere, setup as emergency backup server.

I would love to replace Exchange with Zimbra, however this is not possible at this moment. This solution would help me convice companie's running Exchange to move to Zimbra.

Have you figured out this? This is exactly what we would like to do as well.

This answer was recently given for a related question. There's a wiki post (certified even!) that I think gives the answer you're looking for...
