Default account settings

Hello,
I have installed zimbra following split dns how-to in a fedora 7 test machine.
What I would like to know if is Zimbra is suitable for my needs.

I have to install it in a production server inside a little shop to manage
the accounts for various operators that have its pc on the lan.
The server is connected to the internet.
Every operator should exchange mail with the others, and should
retrieve mail and send it from its external account (like gmail.com),
instead of the dumb fqdn I create to install it (I create my.little.shop).
Is this possible? I retrieve the pop3, but at the moment I am not
able to send it from external accounts.
How can I do this? Is necessary to buy a true domain to work with zimbra?
Thanks,
tano

If you wish to receive email from anyone on the internet you need to have a real domain name they can send mail to.

Excuse me, I create an external account and retrieving mail from
gmail.com (for example) is not a problem. The problem is send e-mail
use this account instead of my dumb account (foobar@my.little.shop).

You can set your POP3 client to use the IP address as the server you are popping into. At least Outlook and Outlook Express will allow you to do this.

If you send e-mail from your Zimbra server without a real domain and DNS records most services will reject or send directly to spam.

You don't send mail from the external account you send it from Zimbra, if you wish to use a different 'reply to' address then look in the user Preferences tab at the 'Persona' option.

Change the setting in the Admin UI to 'Send from any address'.
