I have tried more than 8 times to install Zimbra without any luck. I got the same error: Initializing ldap...FAILED (28416) error.
I have stopped Firewalls, httpd and Sendmail.
I am installing zimbra on Fedora 7.

Do the following:

visudo

Comment out requiretty so the line looks like the following:
#Defaults requiretty

then save the file and try the install again.

What message does it give you? Are you running it as root?

When asking questions in a forum it helps if you post some details of what operating system you're using, which version and release of Zimbra, what error messages you get (and what you were doing when you got the message) and some errors from the log files - it isn't very useful to post a 'me too' and tag it onto an old post which may not be the same as your problem.

This applies to non-Windows users as well.

Well, from that information it's clear you don't have the same problem as the original poster. What you've probably got is an incorrect /etc/hosts file and no valid DNS A & MX records - they are needed. I assume you're running behind a NAT router and your Zimbra server has a fixed IP address?

Please post the output of the following commands (run on your Zimbra server):

cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/resolv.conf 
dig yourdomain.com mx
dig yourdomain.com any
host `hostname` <-- type that command exactly using backticks not single quotes

When you post the output of each command highlight the text and surround it with 'quotes' (hit the # symbol above the edit box) to make it easier to read.

I'd also suggest you read the Quick Start Installation Guide for the format of the /etc/hosts file then read this wiki article on setting up a Split DNS.
