my host files says: 192.168.2.101 mail mail.freeos.co.uk

To the best of my knowledge that is correct; so why would I change that and what would you suggest I put there!
    That is NOT correct.

    Correct is:
    192.168.2.101 mail.freeos.co.uk mail

Which is not really the point - a careful reading of my last post will show that I told you, if you want to change the hostname, edit the /etc/HOSTNAME file. But fixing /etc/hosts will actualy fix your problem.

What are you saying - your hosts file is already set up with the fqdn first?

    No!

I am saying that my host file says this:

    192.168.2.101 mail.freeos.co.uk mail

and I had typed it incorrectly in the post.

    Right... check this out.

I have just installed a copy of Fedora Core 4

    but not Zimbra

Just Core 4 and the normal DNS stuff.

So if I check out the hosts file in Fedora it says my external address:

    81.150.155.x mail.freeos.co.uk mail

    On SuSE it says:

    192.168.2.101 mail.freeos.co.uk mail

Can I assume that fedora is correct and that the suse install is wrong and this is why I am getting no inbound mail?

In the instructions it says about the host file needing to have the FWDN appear before the host names does this mean:

    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    192.168.2.101 freeos.co.uk mail

    or does it mean:

    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    192.168.2.101 mail.freeos.co.uk mail

    Thanks

    Yogiman!

    In that case:

    My hosts files is correct
    My hostname file is correct

I have just done yet another re-install and it does exactly the same thing.

Says that it can not find host name and mx records

    Any further suggestions?

    Regards

    Yogiman!
