    Hi

Zimbra has an ldap server, in fact Zimbra is a complete package and has everything it needs to run. There are a few system dependencies, have a look a look at the documentation for details.

Thank you for the reply, one more quick ?, I read the documentation on Zimbra, but does Zimbra need to be installed on a "Virgin" server or can I install it on my existing mail/web server?

    Thanks

It is recommended that Zimbra be run on a dedicated server but you can run it with another Apache server, for instance. You can't run it with another mail server as they'll both want to use port 25 and I wouldn't recommend trying it. If Zimbra does find any port conflicts the install routine will tell you and they can be changed.

No, Zimbra haven't set-up anything on IRC so it's only the forum at present. I prefer forums as everyone can benefit from the answer provided - especially me as I'm new to linux & Zimbra.

Alright Phoenix or anyone else, I am having real trouble installing Zimbra, Basically heres the layout, I have a domain that i registered, knixtech.com from namecheap.com. I have obviosly if you go to that site you can see that it works. But when i ttry to install zimbra i keep getting those dns mx errors. Any thoughts on what i need to do on my end? Do i need to have a dns server on my end ruunning? Also I will be installing on Suse 10.

Also right now I am running a mailserver "Axigen" from my hom but want to replace with Zimbra

    Thanks,

Do you have the abilty to manage the DNS MX records at your domain name hosting ccompany?

The answer to installing DNS would depend on whether your mail server is going to be available on the internet i.e. will port 25 be available for connections by other mailservers? If the answer is yes, you'll need the ability to manage your DNS records. If the answer is no, you'll be better off installing DNS on your home server and setting up the records yourself.
