Default Yahoo.com - temporarily deferred

3 months of Yahoo deferrals and continued research for the Zimbra solution have got me absolutely stumped...

2008-05-07 12:22:20 deferred (host a.mx.mail.yahoo.com[209.191.118.103] refused to talk to me: 421 Message from (216.235.156.35) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to 421 Message temporarily deferred - [numeric code] - Mail)
2008-05-07 16:46:13 deferred (host mxvm2.mail.yahoo.com[67.28.113.14] refused to talk to me: 421 Message from (216.235.156.35) temporarily deferred - 4.16.50. Please refer to 421 Message temporarily deferred - [numeric code] - Mail)

I am running 2 other Postfix servers that send to Yahoo.com without a hitch. I see posts stating that repairing DNS errors resolved the problem and even turning off Zimbra local DNS lookups.

If you telnet (port 25) to one of those servers that are deffering your messages do you get a reply ? If you do get a reply are you able to send a email through manually ?

I am trying...

telnet a.mx.mail.yahoo.com 25
helo icuatlanta.com
mail from:user@icuatlanta.com

But it responds "501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments".

Code:
mail from: user@icuatlanta.com
put chevrons around the email address so that it is RFC compliant.

This is from Yahoo's postmaster help section. You can find the section here.

Quote:
If you’re seeing the error "421 Message from x.x.x.x temporarily deferred - 4.16.50", in your SMTP logs (where x.x.x.x is your IP address), this indicates that emails from your mail server have been generating substantial complaints from Yahoo! Mail users.

This is a temporary error and your mail server may automatically re-try sending emails at a later time. However, if you’re seeing this error consistently over an extended period of time, we encourage you to provide us with detailed information so that we can help diagnose your problem.

For bulk mailers, please visit this page to review our best practice recommendations and request assistance.

If your mail server does not primarily send bulk mailings (e.g., you run a personal, corporate, educational, or ISP mail server), please fill out this form instead.

If you are not the administrator of the mail server in question, please contact the administrator directly with the error message you are receiving.

I had this error when one of my users was trying to send 20MB (5 x 4MB) attachment. I had him send them one at a time and did not receive the error any more.

Not sending bulk-email or large attachments. I have reviewed the entire admin section of Yahoo.com and even sent requests for help... all I get are automated responses with no follow-up.

Is your problem server answering the HELO command with "mail1.icuatlanta.com"?
