Default installation on an internal domain

Hello,
I use to run linux on my desktop from a few years already.
Now some people ask me to build a server linux box and
make Zimbra run over it.
As asked me, Zimbra should work as an internal (= lan) mail
delivery system, on a domain that does not exist in reality,
and manage only one account that is real for which it should
retrieve via pop protocol and should give send possibility (it is an e-mail
hosted on another site).
Now I would like to know if Zimbra can do it (I think yes),
and how am I regulate on the parameters at installation
type (this installation seems strange and different from
that described on the pdf single server installation).
Can you point me to some direction?

Welcome to the forums

Yes this is possible. As this is on a internal LAN you will need to configure a Split DNS - Zimbra :: Wiki . This will allow the Zimbra server to resolve its MX and host information.

Once this is performed and you have created a account, you can then create a external account which will retrieve your POP3 email. This is configured through the web client under Preferences -> Accounts.
