[SOLVED] Disturbing - 2Gb of email just disappears

Hello.
A week ago we migrated over to Zimbra.
For the most part it went well and our users have been working in it for a week now.
About 20 minutes ago a user called me up and told me that a folder that she
was working in (She's using Thunderbird) disappeared.

After looking at the account and comparing the live zimbra to a week old back up, it looks like a folder with about 2bg worth of emails was just deleted.

Is there any way of finding out what the hell happened?
We're using Zimbra 5.0.4

Is thunderbird configured to leave a copy of the message on the server?

Best bet is to check your server logs from the time when the deletion occurred. Try /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log - it'll probably have what ever event deleted the folder.

We had a look at the log files.
It seems like the user accidentally moved the folder to Trash (the folder's name stared with an 'A' so it was right under the Trash folder).
Then not noticing she continued to work in it...until she eventually emptied the trash.

Easy to fix...

Restore the user's mailbox with the prefix command (i.e. restore to another, separate mailbox) from a date just prior to the deletion.

Configure the user's MUA to connect to both mailboxes, and then the user can drag 'n drop the deleted/restored folder from the restored backup mailbox to the regular mailbox.

After the transfer is complete the restored mailbox can be deleted and the corresponding account in the user's MUA deleted.
