Default push to iphone

this might not be in the right area and i apologize if it is not. i have an iphone and it does a terrible job of pulling mail from my zimbra server even though it's set to check for messages every 15 minutes. it's 12:30pm and i had to go into the mail folder for it to "pull" mail from 3am to 10am.

is there a way to "push" it to my iphone?

please don't respond with the mobile site access because i am aware of that but don't consider checking the site every 15 minutes or so as an option. i imagine the issue is related to the iphone mail retrieval but i wasn't sure if there was a way to circumvent it.

thanks for any help.

I'm not sure whether Zimbra supports P-IMAP or not, but the iPhone does as that is what it uses for accounts on Yahoo. iPhone 2.0 (1.2) will have Exchange active-sync support, so you should be able to sync your email, calendar and contacts with Zimbra when that comes out (sometime in June).

If by "P-IMAP" you mean IMAP IDLE then yes, Zimbra supports that.

My bad! Don't trust everything you read on the Internet. The Yahoo-iPhone push system uses something entirely different. At this time, the mail app in the iPhone doesn't support IDLE, so looks like we'll have to wait for Exchange support in v2.0

Trust Apple to do it differently.

Work has been done to impliment push for the iPhone, but the code is still not ready for mainstream, I tried it once without success.

I did consider setting up a yahoo email account just to see how the iphone /should/ work, but I never got around to it.

I just hope that the exchange support works as expected 'in real life', as the apple presentation of the features was great, but controlled conditions are not necessarily what will happen in the field.

Some people so have access to the new firmware for testing though...
