Newbie - Howto upgrade Zimbra 4.5.9 NE to latest release on Redhat Linux?

Hi everyone,

Zimbra was already running in this company as the mail server and I have to upgrade it from 4.5.9 NE to the latest NE on redhat linux to get some required features... namely the free/busy feature.

Can someone write down the steps on how to do it? I.e. from where to download the latest upgrade all the way to the commands to write on Linux to do the upgrade? My redhat linux admin skills are at a junior level and since I didn't install Zimbra, I'm not sure how it is installed or upgraded.

Would really appreciate a positive response! Thanks guys!

This is a little of what I call Holder Hackery, but it'll work.
su - zimbra
zmcontrol start
exit
rsync -avr /opt/zimbra /backup/location

Upgrade RHEL
Run the installer for the SAME version of Zimbra, but new OS (ie RHEL 5) with ./install.sh -s

Done!

Unless I'm reading this wrong...eas it sounds like you just want Zimbra upgraded not RHEL correct?

What's the output of:

su - zimbra
zmcontrol -v

or in the ajax web-client main search bar enter:

$set:get version

You can make use of CLI - zmbackup Network Edition Only - Zimbra :: Wiki

zmbackup -f -a all -s server.domain.com

Your default backup target is /opt/zimbra/backup unless it's been modified.
You can check with:

zmprov gacf | grep zimbraBackupTarget

(But /opt/zimbra/backup could also be mounted/symlinked elsewhere.)

You can also backup the backup somewhere if you'd like or zmcontrol stop then switch to root and run:

mkdir /backuprsync
rsync -avHK /opt/zimbra/ /backuprsync/zimbra

Run "df -h" to see your disk freespace information.

You can also open a support ticket and someone would happily hold your hand and walk you through an upgrade if you'd like

You should also read the release notes as there's installation instructions at the bottom - you can find everything through this page: 4.5.11 & 5.0.2 Released!

Yes I wanted Zimbra upgraded, not RHEL. Thank you very much for the detailed reply - it helps for a newbie like me.

When I put zmcontrol -v, I get:
Release 4.5.9_GA_1454.RHEL4_64_20071016190715 RHEL4_64 NETWORK edition

Thank you for posting that last link as well, now I can download NCS 5.0.2. I assume I should download the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 x86_64 version right?

As for the support portal - my predecessor didn't leave me any details on the username and password to use it. What details must I send and to who should I send it to, to get access to the support portal? Thanks a lot!

Send an email to support@zimbra.com (from your main domain if possible) and we'll get you added to the account.

So it's easier for us to handle provide:
-The name/email of the prior admin; while we probably won't remove it right away till we're absolutely sure, we can at least add you as a user on the account.
-Contents of:
/opt/zimbra/conf/ZCSLicense.xml
or

su - zimbra
zmlicense -p

or
admin console > global settings > license tab
