Red face log4j Warning

Hi

I am busy with a clean install of Zimbra. I am moving from SuSE10 Pro to Ubuntu 7.10 and Zimbra 5.0.2. On the SuSE system I am running Zimbra 4.5.6. I made the backup and moved it over to the new server. After succesfully restoring the LDAP, i need to restore the data as described in Network Edition Disaster Recovery. when I run the command:
zmrestoreoffline -sys -a all -c -br

I get the following errors and no restoration happens.
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (zimbra.extensions).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.

Any help would be appreciated

You do realise that Ubuntu 7.10 is an unsupported Operating System for Zimbra NE, don't you? I'd strongly suggest that you install Zimbra on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.

Default I have the same exact issue, but on RHEL5

I'm trying to perform the same operation following the same instructions and I encounter the same issue as the original poster.

Network Edition Disaster Recovery - Zimbra :: Wiki

When I try and run zmrestoreoffline I just get the log4j WARN and thats it, even zmrestoreoffline -h returns that same output. The backup files in this case are coming from a debian system running 5.0.2 which is what I have on the RHEL box.

Default Found my problem

Seems my zimbra_ldap_password didn't match what the old server was using so I had to reset that with zmlocalconfig -f -e zimbra_ldap_password=blah

Once I did that zmrestoreoffline started doing it's thing, although without any log that I can find.

Question

Hi,

Has anyone managed to figure this one out? I've done all the LDAP password resets etc. but still:

log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (zimbra.extensions).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly

I'm on 5.0.4 NE eval but had the same issue on 5.0.2.

Thanks
Geoff

Those are just warning messages and should have no effect on the running of your Zimbra server. Is this a problem with a disaster recovery as mentioned above? What, exactly, is the problem you're experiencing? What errors do you have in the logs?

Unhappy

Thanks for the quick response. I am having a problem when trying to do a full recovery (testing DR). The "zmrestoreoffline -sys -a all -c -br" runs and restores all the settings and suchlike but I cannot get any mail restored to the mailboxes. The LDAP restore ran before this successfully as well. I have logged an issue with Zimbra support but then saw this thread and thought it may help.

I have to try rush this as this is the major obstacle to us doing a full roll out.

If I try just restore mailboxes I get:

2008-03-25 09:40:07,996 INFO [btpool0-2]

I am having the same issue here restore is not working when i do a top the server is doing nothing and this is the output of the tail command

tail -f /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log
tail: cannot open `/opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log' for reading: No such file or directory
tail: no files remaining

I tried the ldap password reset mention in this thread but it did not help either i am using version 5.0.0.2 following the disaster recovery wike

I'm in the middle of a server migration, and I also have this.

[zimbra@dawson sessions]$ zmrestoreoffline -sys -a all -c -br
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (zimbra.misc).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.

The program appears to continue going and doing something... I don't get a log file though.

I too am experiencing this. no mailbox.log is being generated. The only log changing is the convertd.log and the zmstatuslog.pid timestamp is updating.

I am trying to use the DR to move a server from rhel5 to rhel5 and it don't seem to work. Glad my real server is still functioning. This bites.
