Default [SOLVED] Admin panel not accessible - zimbra 5.02 on ubuntu 6.06

Hi there,

Zimbra installs without conflict or other errors (with the exception of the MX complaint until I change to the domain.co.uk rather than mail.domain.co.uk).

http user access to zimbra works fine.

if I set zimbra to https mode, https user access works fine, certificate all ok.

I can send and receive from/to the default email account that zimbra configures.

I cannot access the admin panel however. It just times out. I've checked the url, and it appears fine. I tried altering the domain to access ir from the one in /etc/hosts to just the domain with no luck.

I have a build in a virtual machine, which has no external dns records and I can access the admin panel on that - pulling my hair out - it must be something simple.

Here is my /etc/hosts and digs in case any can spot something I can't (all cmds executed on server):

/etc/hosts
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
XX.XX.XX.XX mail.domain.co.uk mail

digs removed ---------------------

point to note - I have another ip addy, but not using atm.

It's 6.06 - as far as I'm aware SElinux wasn't introduced on ubuntu until ~feisty

I don't see an selinux folder in /etc - is there a way of checking?

- actually - the box doesn't respond to ping externally, so the hosting company must have made some changes in that regard to the default install. I checked iptables and couldn't see anything myself though.

if I execute:
Code:
netstat -an | grep "LISTEN "
I see the line

Code:
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:7071 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
This should be the ip addy right? not 0.0.0.0 ??

but 443 shows the same 0.0.0.0 and that works for user log in.

I'm not a Ubuntu user but I thought selinux was in 6.06, you can check with sestatus and see if it returns anything. Your server isn't responding to a telnet on port 7071, can you ssh into the box and try a telnet to that port and see if it responds?

sestatus returns: command not found

I get could not resolve: name or service not known when executing

telnet 127.0.0.1:7071
telnet localhost:7071
telnet localhost.localdomain:7071
telnet xx.xx.xx.xx:7071

This is the same response I get on the virtual machine from inside - on which the admin can be accessed.

The netstat commend on the virtual machine returns a line with

Code:
tcp6       0      0 :::7071                 :::*                    LISTEN

The telnet command should be in this format: telnet 88.208.236.197 7071 (no colon between the IP & port).

So, if you can access the admin ui from inside then it would suggest there's a firewall problem.

telnet 88.208.236.197 7071
Trying 88.208.236.197...
Connected to 88.208.236.197.

se linux is ruled out and I checked ip tables - don't see a prob there - alse executed

Code:
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 7071 -j ACCEPT
which doesn't make any difference.

Thank you for your help so far.

Any further pointers gratefully received.

edit - I've spotted a problem in the order of my iptables. Fixing now.

Sorted. It was an iptables rule.

Thank you for helping me trouble shoot.
