Default Limited memory a problem?

Hi,

I'm very interested in Zimbra and would like to deploy it on my own server. The problem is: it has only 256MiB ram, which is very limited. I'm checking with my 'server-provider' if they can put some extra ram (it's a rented server), but am not sure if they can or will do this.
Now I was wondering if Zimbra can work with 256MiB ram? The number of users will be very limited (just me to start with, probably not more than 5 in the near future).

Regards,
Ben

It won't work.

Some guys managed to get Zimbra 4.0.x running with so little memory (and lots of disabled features) but AFAIK you can't get 4.5 or 5.0 to run.

Look in the forum there are threads about this.

Welcome to the forums.

Yes, limited memory is a problem. The minimum we recommend fo a testing server is 1GB and 2GB for production. You can check the wiki (and search the forums) for some articles that detail running with less services to reduce RAM requirements. I'd also suggest that 256MB is a non-starter.
