    Default localhost.localdomain

    you're zimbra server is set to the hostname localhost.localdomain, and that hostname isn't in your /etc/hosts file.

    Default can't determine services

    Is ldap running? Try zmcontrol start.

    zmhostname
    zmlocalconfig ldap_url
    Should return the same hostname.
    zmlocalocnfig ldap_is_master - should be true if this is the ldap server.

    ok here is a question, i checked all of that, and it all was accurate, but would it make a diffrence if I was trying to connect to it via IP my internal network ip, I dont have the mx record, and url pointing to this box yet, I want to get it where I can see the interface and set things up before I put it out on the net,

    Thanks for all the help everyone

    Default what?

    Your last post is very confusing.

    MX records, at this point, aren't the problem. The problem is that you're not contacting ldap, or at least not under the correct hostname.

    Did you change the hostname on this server?

    Is ldap running?

    I can understand it being confusing, I apologise for that, that was way to long without sleep lol. anywayWhat I was trying to say is I went through your previous list of things to check and they all came back ok.

    zmhostname= kckanar.com

    ldap_url =ldap://kckanar.com

    I do zmcontrol start and it apears to work, I think, it stops and thinks for a moment as i would beleive services are starting and then it says my hostname before returning to a prompt

    so I am at a loss. after reading my last post, yeah Im not sure what I was trying to say about the MX Records.

    OK, zmcontrol start returns the hostname aka kckanar.com
    Code:
    [zimbra@mail root]$ zmcontrol start
    Host kckanar.com
    How do I tell if ldap is running.

    Default hostname problem

    Ok, somewhere there's a config disconnect.

    ps auxww | grep slapd - what's returned?

    zmprov gas - what's returned?

    zmhostname - what's returned?
