Default Job/service to copy IP of Zimbra server to www.ourcompany.com

Hi,

we intend to install Zimbra in a test environment behind a firewall in a DynDNS domain with NAT.
Do to different reasons, we will receive and send our mails through an ISP (external mail domain).

External users should be able to access the Zimbra-server by typing www.ourcompany.com/mail (www.ourcompany.com is hosted extenally)

Therefore we are contemplating to install/run a service or cron job on the Zimbra-server to send the IP (of the Zimbra-server) to www.ourcompany.com

Question:
Is that a good idea or do we miss something?

Thank's a lot for any feedback!

John

If you can add a DNS entry for mail.ourcompany.com then you may find that's a simpler solution. Point the www records at the host and the mail record at your zimbra server.

Thank's a lot for the helpful informations. Sounds to be a smart approach :-)

The only problem is that I still have to learn a lot about DNS in order to be able to do it myself..

Could you point me to a helpful HowTo (i do know the Zimbra split_dns howto a litle bit), or could probably
yourself describe the procedure a little bit more detailled?

Thank's a lot for any help!

If you are behind a NAT device then the Split DNS article is what you need, there's also this article on DNS or search the forums for 'DNS in a Nutshell' for a similar description of split dns.
