Looking through the download page, I don't see any VMWare image available for 5.0 yet. Is there an ETA for this?
Thanks!

Crickets? No info on this? I was excited to see Zimbra listing a VM in the VMware marketplace, but I'm not seeing anything newer than 4.5.3 beta...has this packaging type been abandoned?

It's 2009! Has the VMWare image available for 5.0 yet? Alteratively, it will be good if Zimbra is willing to create even just a Linux VMware image with everything setup properly for zimbra installation. We can then use it to select and install the Zimbra version we want to save time and effort. A big favor to encourage the deployment of Zimbra.
We have deployed a "lot" of zimbra's running on vmware (ESX or ESXI)
there is practically 0 difference how you install zimbra on Vmware ESX/ESXi compared to regular server install.
fourms and wiki are full of complete instructions on how to install zimbra on almost all supported platforms.

Hi Raj,
I think you missed our point. You see, instead of making everybody spending a full day installing an OS and Zimbra, why not have just one person doing that in a VM and make that VM available for everyone to download? The difference between a full day and a few minutes to configure and start running Zimbra is a huge time saver. Don't you think so?
Also, you have to put yourself in the shoe of the end users, especially those who never touch command line and linux before. Everything is difficult for them as long as the installation is not idiot-proof, especially with so many difference distribution of Linux that require similar but very difference installation steps. This is far from your assumption of virtually no differences. Think of why Windows is so successful... And Mac... it's all about user friendliness.![]()
@bhwong
1) it takes around 13 min for me to install CentOS 5.3 + yum updates + pre reqs + Zimbra using PXE and KS
2) if we do from CD 30 min flat including installing zimbra
3) "have to put yourself in the shoe of the end users, especially those who never touch command line and linux before"...well if a user who wants to really manage and run zimbra never touch commmand line then they wont be able to "really" manage and run zimbra (or any email server) in real life..so giving them a VM with "everything done for them" will be of no use as they cannot manage that one either.
and on top if user dont know how to use linux then how they will manage the Vmware Server ? and do all the configs needed
if they just want to see what zimbra is online demo is there.
4) zimbra install "is" idiot proof..if user is "Reading" before installing.
5) Mac is not user freindly..i like windows..ask the guy herehttp://www.zimbra.com/forums/installation/32662-nightmare.html
6) windows is user freindly..by Exchange is even bigger pain to install than zimbra..so i like zimbra
..just my point of views..igmore the mod badge.

VM from a trusted source is important for I won't want to use a VM from any end user for spyware might have been inserted into Zimbra to spy on our emails etc. Also, less experienced users might have installed some incompatible modules that conflict with Zimbra too!
So it has to be authorized by Zimbra with some kind of warranty that the setup is 100% working. See it from the business point of view.
