Default How to upgrade?

What is the best way to accomplish this?

I currently have zimbra 4.5.9 NE installed on Ubuntu 7.04

I want to goto zimbra 5.0.1 NE on Ubuntu 6.06

I have about 20 users using the system daily and all using outlook with various versions of the connector. I would love to not have to reset everyones outlook as they all have it customized the way they like it.

Should I do a full backup of zimbra.
Wipe the server and install ubuntu 6.06
now here is the question reinstall 4.5.9 and restore data then upgrade to 5.0.1
or just install 5.0.1 and restore the data onto a fresh 5.0.1?

Please help!

I don't have much customization of zimbra just a ssl cert installed. This is the only thing running on the Ubuntu box. I would just update my 7.04 box with 5.0.1 but I am tired of hearing that is not supported and that is why you are having issues. So thats why i intend to downgrade.

Thanks Josh

IMHO I reckon the following order :-

1) Backup existing installation /opt/zimbra
2) Do point 1 again!
3) Clean install of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
4) Install a dummy installation of Zimbra 4.5.9 NE
5) Restore your /opt/zimbra backup
6) Run zmfixperms
7) If that is all working fine proceed to 8
8) Do points 1 and 2 again
9) Upgrade to 5.0.1

This covers operating system platform changes: /blog/archives/2007/10/moving_zcs_to_another_server.html
-Make plenty of backups
-The key is using the exact same ZCS version (4.5.9 in your case) for the platform switch.
-I would do the platform change first & make sure everything is ok before upgrading ZCS to 5.0.1 (it's harder to downgrade Zimbra).
-You could always do an intermediate jump to 4.5.10 if you'd like.
-After getting on 5.0.1 you should distribute the newest version of the connector. The others don't stop working as there's backwards compatibility, but you wont have any 5.0 features (such as shared mail folders etc) if you don't upgrade the connectors.
