Default Do I need to install the zimbra proxy?

Folks,

We are running a test installation of the Open Source version of Zimbra 5.0 GA here on OpenSuSE 10.2. Our setup is as follows:

ztest0 - runs everything except LDAP & Proxy
ztest1 - runs everything except LDAP & Proxy
ztest2 - runs only LDAP & Logger, creates the domain "ztest"

My specific user account resides on ztest0. Sometimes when I connect via IMAP to "ztest" I connect to ztest1, where my account does not reside, and therefore I get an error saying my credentials are invalid. I have to keep attempting to reconnect until my IMAP client finally sends me back over to ztest0.

Is this something I should have installed the zimbra-proxy for to correct?

Installing zimbra-proxy on another server (and getting your users to connect to this other server) should fix the problem.

The proxy will automagically connect the "correct" server depending on user.

Klug,

Thanks for the reply. I just want to make sure I clearly understand something because I think I'm a little confused.

Given my previous configuration that I laid out:

ztest0 - everything except LDAP & Proxy
ztest1 - everything except LDAP & Proxy
ztest2 - only LDAP, Logger, creates the domain "ztest"

Should I be installing proxy on ztest2? Can I install it on another machine I have? ztest3?

If/when I install on ztest3 I get:

DNS ERROR resolving MX for ztest3.acns.msu.edu
It is suggested that the domain name have an MX record configured in DNS
Change domain name? [Yes]

Should I be telling it to change the domain name to ztest? Because that is the domain that I want people to connect to. (Also, oddly, the box ztest3 does have an MX record, but then again I received that error on every single box that I installed Zimbra software on, *shrug*)

Do I need to go back in and put zimbra-proxy on ztest0 and ztest1???

Thanks again for your previous response.
