Default Upgrade from ZCS 5.0 GA FOSS to ZCA 5.0 NE

We're currently testing ZCS 5.0 GA FOSS on our systems and plan to upgrade to Network Edition for further testings, and we'd like to have some documentation regarding this kind of upgrade. We searched everywhere and couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance.

I believe the FOSS is identical to the NE edition. All you need is a NE license key, you can receive a demo key from sales. If you want full support, make sure your on one of the NE supported platforms.

The editions are different, as the NE includes some closed sourced features, thus it's my understanding that changing the FOSS licence key for a NE wouldn't work.

Would running the NE installer and chosing "Upgrade" work, like it did for upgrading from ZCS 5.0 RC1 FOSS to 5.0 RC2 FOSS?

Ahh.. You know what.. I got my own facts wrong. If you install the NE edition, when the key expires, it disables the functions and works like the FOSS edition.

Sorry, my bad.

You should be able to upgrade the 5.0 FOSS version to an NE version without problems. You should, of course, take a backup of your /opt/zimbra directories (with Zimbra stopped) before you do the upgrade. Check the wiki for some backup scripts.

Hi Phoenix, can you (anyone) confirm this is the case?

I have been advised to follow these instructions:
Network Edition Moving from Open Source to Network Edition ZCS - Zimbra :: Wiki

However, it would appear I need a secondary server?

I merely want to upgrade my existing FOSS server to the NE version on the same hardware. I would have thought this was a straight forward upgrade but according to the official instructions this would appear not to be the case.

Has anyone actually upgraded from OS to NE versions by running the NE installer over the top of OS?

Any help appreciated.

We finally merely ran the NE installer and answered "Yes" when prompted whether to upgrade or not. Our FOSS Zimbra has been updated to NE painlessly. Make sure you have your backups and plan 15-30 minutes for the actual upgrade process.
