Default Fedora 4.5 to 5 upgrades

Any timeline yet on when this will be available for the FOSS version? I would like to stay with Fedora and have no problems upgrading to 7 to support Zimbra 5.0, but I will wait for an upgrade path that is supported. It would be nice to know when that will happen so I can do some planning, if at all possible.

Thanks!

Default zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.FC4....

Hi all,

I have an installation currently running zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.FC4...gz, I was expecting a RC2 and a GA but it appears this is not happening.

I notice that a 4.5 -> 5.0 GA for FC4 -> FC7 is in the pipeline, but I kinda feel cornered. Is there anyway I can get from zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.FC4 to a FC7 version?

I can re-install OS without problem, backups are good - I was looking for a zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.FC7 and hoped I could wipe and install FC7 OS, install a zcs-5.0.0_RC1_....FC7 binaries, restore backup and then be on the right path.

Does this sound like a plan? If so, can I get a zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.FC7 - it is not in the older release lists?

Help appreciated!

DGS_David,

Here are the 2 direct links you'll need to transition from FC4 to F7.

http://files.zimbra.com/downloads/5....1003003444.tgz
http://files.zimbra.com/downloads/5....1002161110.tgz

Procedure would be to
1. Backup ZCS
2. Upgrade OS from FC4 to F7
3. Upgrade ZCS to zcs-5.0.0_RC1 for F7
4. Upgrade ZCS to zcs-5.0.0_GA for F7

Bingo - thanks Brian!

zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.F7.20071002161110.tgz is the key, I'll report back to let you all know it worked out ok. I hate reading forum threads never knowing if the help actually worked out

Off to finish the bread, get kids dressed, go shopping and the FC7 build

Have a good weekend!

All looking good. I installed FC7 from scratch so my steps were...

1. Backup (zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.FC4.20071003003444) /opt/zimbra/ to other host
2. Install OS FC7
3. Install zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.F7.20071002161110
4. Restore backup (which included binaries linked to old libraries)
5. Run install in upgrade mode: zcs-5.0.0_RC1_1538.F7.20071002161110 (to correct binary linking)
6. TODO: install zcs-5.0.0_GA_1869.F7.20071218205447 after another backup

With step 6 outstanding though, the new OS server is running! Finishing up the move to 5.0 GA should be trivial, but I'll let the nightly backups etc go through before I tinker further.

Thanks for the help!

David

I would do a backup and get to GA - unless you're really sure no one's gonna use IMAP (you could just block the port if you wanted to play it safe for the night) see [SOLVED] Major Zimbra+ Thunderbird Problem & Bug 21117 - IMAP move causes corruption

Thanks mmorse,

The upgrade to 5.0 GA failed to go smoothly although the problems were soon overcome whilst checking the logs and forums (missing libtool-ltdl, CA/ldap etc). Overall very pleased with everything so far as are family and friends who use the server!

Thanks Zimbra for the support - much appreciated!

Would the procedure be the same for upgrading from 4.5.10 on FC7 to 5.0 on the same system, or would I need to wait for 5.0.2 or whatever?

I'm hoping the 4.5 to 5.0 for Fedora upgrade process is available soon, we're chomping at the bit here. There are quite a few features we want to try out soon. I am also willing to take an upgrade path that's a bit convoluted as long as I end up in a "supported" configuration. (I'm on the FOSS edition)
