Default 5.0 Mac OS X PPC support?

There appears to not be a package for Mac OS X PPC. Is it no longer supported?

Correct, PPC builds are no longer supported.

Unhappy Is there a reason for this decision?

Is there somewhere a note to be found, what the reason is to not supply a Mac OS X PPC package of Zimbra 5.x?

And/or is there a howto for an installation based on the source code?

I don't have an official answer but I suspect it has to do with Apple not having shipped a PPC machine in a long while. Please remember that older PPC builds are still available.

Certainly true, that Apple stopped shipping PPC machines a while ago.
Those machines though are still absolutely capable to handle a medium sized mail server.

I was wondering if there are some technical restrictions, why 5.x isn't supported anymore on the Mac OS X PPC platform.

This doesn't affect me greatly, but it's interesting that Zimbra doesn't want to provide PPC support due to the fact that Apple hasn't shipped PPC in a while, yet hasn't provided Mac OS X 10.5 support yet and expects customers not to upgrade to the current OS. (as outlined in this bug - Bug 21441 - Requesting Apple-Server (10.5, leopard) support for ZCS)

Even though they haven't shipped a PPC machine in a while, their OS still completely supports PPC.

i guess you can build from the actual sources, and run 5.x that way. whenever i can rebuild my mac test box, i'll test it out.

"Nice" move. I' m very disappointed with this issue.
I think we 're a lot of people having PowerMAC G5s with enough power to handle a mid-sized mail server.
Does anyone know a similar - to Zimbra Collaboration Server, solution?
Preferably free, because i need to evaluate it first.

Unhappy no answer?

Up until now I had a very good impression of Zimbra, be it with the software or the responsiveness in the forum.

I'm very disappointed to not get a real answer to the question what the reason is to stop the binary distribution for PPC based Macs. Is it technical, is it marketing?

At very least it would be nice to know if it's technically at all possible to build an installation from source for PPC Macs.

Anyone of Zimbra be so nice to comment?
