Only for a minute or two - you're close.

Did you disable the Firewall & SElinux, you should also disable ipv6 - they can all cause you problems. Once you've done that, run the host command again and see what it gives.

I assume you are not letting mail into this server yet?

I just installed a "basic" UBUNTU 6.0.6 server and had the impression that SELinux, Firewall and ip6 were extras that I should have installed myself if I wanted them - and I havn't. I've tried finding something on how to check and/or how to disable but sofar with no luck.
iptables show no rules at all -> I assume no firewall
I cannot find any files like selinux -> I assume no SELinux
netstat shows some tcp6 linies -> I assume ip6 is active and need a way to disable that.
I'll look further.

Default Maybe this time ...

I added
search giver.info
to the top of resolv.conf and restarted bind9
and now :
Code:
host `hostname`
ibm5600.giver.info has address 10.10.10.235
so maybe now I can raise my arms again ?
