Welcome to the forums,
First I just wanted to check: NE or FOSS?
5.0 FOSS GA or 4.5.10 FOSS or 4.5.10 NE?
I ask because you should not be running NE on an unsupported platform.
The error seems to be as noted in Bug 22140 - latest mainline builds not installing, throws error in zmldapinit a permissions issue on the certs.

Default Fedora 8 install

I ended up backing up the data. Then I reloaded the system with fedora 6 and then used the my restore script to put zimbra back to its former state. I ended up modifying some perl backup scripts and then using them for the backup and restore.

On a good note i now have scripts that automatically backup the zimbra on a weekly basis. And i know the restore script works, because i used it!

I know that the zimbra 4.10 won't run on fedora 7 or 8 because of the newer version of curl on 7 and 8. I would make a new package and post it, but there are no good directions on how to compile your own build of zimbra open source.

Default CentOS

I ended moving to CentOS in the end, so that i didn't have to worry about fedoras updates breaking zimbra.

I'm doing an install of the F7 release zimbra 5.0.1_GA_1902 and am getting a similar error.

Note - this is using Fedora 8

From looking around its not a permission problem for me. The certificate files don't exist in the /opt/zimbra/conf directory.

I can't seem to work out why they're not being created. I couldn't find anything that looked significant in the install log.

As noted on a few other threads, the 5.0.1 F7 packages have a missing dependency on libtool-ltdl. This is fixed for 5.0.2. I suggest making sure libtool-ltdl is installed, otherwise slapd won't start.

Yup. Found those posts. Had that installed prior to starting my install. Also made sure I had tty not required in my sudo configuration.

Have you tried starting slapd manually to see why it is unhappy?

as root:

Code:
/opt/zimbra/openldap/libexec/slapd -d -1 -f /opt/zimbra/conf/slapd.conf -u zimbra

Got the exact same error!

Running:
CentOS 5.1 x86_64 (Xen DomainU)
Zimbra 5.02 x86_64

Installed Zimbra 5.01 serveral times without any problems

Relevant debugging info:

Looks like somethingf is already running there! killing it solves it.. However, resuming the install points me to the same error again.
