Default Installing Zimbra with RH Directory Server (LDAP Server)

How do I install Zimbra in a multiserver environment, where I will not be using Zimbra's LDAP, rather I will be using Red Hat Directory Server for authentication?

Your question is slightly ambiguous (at least to me). Do you mean you're not going to install the LDAP supplied with Zimbra? If that's what you mean then you must install the LDAP that comes with ZImbra (and provision the users in there) as it's used for more than authentication.

If you mean you want to use another external LDAP for authentication then that's no problem, you just set an external authentication source in the Zimbra Admin UI.

I am not sure what you mean? Explain this in layman's terms. A quick overview would be nice, for example:

  1. Install the complete Zimbra Collaboration Suite locally.
  2. During Configuration set the LDAP Server to the Server it should authenticate against.
  3. See document blah, blah, blah for more details.

What you responded with is not understood, so please explain further with details and supporting documentation.

Thank you.

You will find the documentation on this page, please read it.

Zimbra comes with a LDAP server, when you run the install script you MUST install the LDAP server that comes with Zimbra.

If you want to use an external authentication source then you set that in the Domain Configuration in the Zimbra Administration interface.

This is mainly what I am trying to figure out and it is not in class of service it is under the domain configuration under authentication. Only problem is I don't understand what it means by needing a LDAP Filter or BIND DN Username and password.

I know that Bind is what controls DNS or what is found in the named directory, but I don't know what password or filter this is looking for. I get an error message stating the following when trying to test a user and I don't know either of what it is requesting:

Invalid Request:
soap:Sender
invalid request: must specify zimbraAuthLdapSearchFilter or zimbraAuthLdapBindDn

Thank you.

The 'BIND DN' isn't the application BIND (the DNS server) it means 'to BIND to a DN (DN means Distinguished Name) on your LDAP server. If you don't know what those terms mean I suggest you ask your admin responsible for installing the Red Hat Directory Server and ask for those fields, there's also the documentation in the wiki.
