#1: The ldap failure loop appears to be tied to the identification of the OS, at least in my case. While I'm on Ubuntu Server 6.10 (confirmed from the /etc/lsb-release file) I also have a debian_version file. I'm far from a linux guru but since my upgrades were working up through version 4.5.6 either the file got created (perhaps an apt-get upgrade result?) or 4.5.7+ should be checking for the Debian version AFTER looking for Ubuntu. Anyway, renaming the debian_version file got me past the ldap loop.
If you run on a supported OS, you won't have that problem.

We only support 6.06LTS.

If you examine the OS page:
http://www.zimbra.com/community/downloads.html
Under "Zimbra Collaboration Suite 4.5" you'll find "Ubuntu 6 x86". Last time I checked that includes 6.10.

Now under the RC2 area it explicitly states 6.06LTS.

Thanks for the company line though.

Supported platforms are listed on the Product Portal, that will tell you what operating system is supported.

Not sure what you mean by "the company line".

We really should fix that "Ubuntu 6" page.

We only support Ubuntu 6.06LTS for 4.5 and 5.0.

This is a common problem, and now I'm pretty sure where it's coming from.

Thanks for pointing out the page. I have just fixed it, sorry for the confusion!

Default In my case sudo require tty was the problem

I was having this problem when I first tried to migrate from FC5 to EL5. The problem was sudo was failing. Editing /etc/sudoers and commenting out the line "Defaults requiretty" solved.

Yeah, I too am running it on 6.10 (assumed it was okay). I will try restoring the backup it to a 6.06LTS and see if I have better luck with the upgrade. I'll follow up.

Just denoting that the "if you were on a supported platform you wouldn't have any problems" phrase is trotted out too often and in too snide a manner in my opinion.

Not a problem. I just assumed 6.10 was supported since I didn't know there was a different, more explicit list when I first tried out Zimbra. I suspect there will be less people jumping on Ubuntu 6.10 thinking it's supported now or at least will know up front they might have some additional hoops to go through.

Snide comments aside from all parties aside, I still love Zimbra and look forward to continued enhancements!
