Default Open Source and NE together

There's something I still don't understand:
I have two Zimbra Servers (open source ed.), one as the main server ant the other as the frontal/external SMTP server.
Now that I have 50 domains, I want to install two more Zimbra servers, so I can move some domains from the current one to the others.
Right now, my customers are asking me for some of the features in the Network Edition (blackberries and outlook syncs).

So my question is:
Is it possible to have a Zimbra farm with 3 open source servers and one network edition server, all centralized?
I mean, can the two kind of licences coexist in the same farm?

I think it's possible, but I'm really not sure. Thanks in advance.

No, it's not possible at all.

You can not mix OSE and NE in the same infrastructure (with single admin, single MTA, etc).

Humm, doesn't sound well for me.
I'd like to make a farm like this:
Code:
             Frontal
               OSE
                |
OSE --- OSE --- NE --- OSE
 | | | |
emc emc emc emc
So I can give a normal domain account to normal users (on any OSE server) and an advanced domain account for subscription users (on the NE server).
If I set the Frontal OSE as the LDAP master for all of them, why wouldn't it work?
How can I have OSEs and NEs together?

You can't.
You simply can not do this.

Thanks for your answer.
Sorry if I don't give up, but is there any technical limitation to do this or is just a marketing limitation?

Custom Postfix + mySQL
|
OSE --- OSE --- NE --- OSE

above could be possible if you put your OWN SMTP INBOUND relay and redirect based on USERID its very simple to make

only Q is how will you do SPLIT DOMAIN..i think its possible there is a wiki article..

Thanks, Raj.
My frontend server will need to contact master LDAP server so I can check i a domain account exists and I can reject non valid destionation emails during the SMTP negotiation. So frontend would be just a slave LDAP and one of the internal servers would be the master LDAP.

I've seen a wiki about domain split at
Split Domain - Zimbra :: Wiki
and so I got the idea of running several ZCS servers, each of them with a license.

I'm gonna try to understand how the split-domain works and will make some tests with both versions. I'll let you know

Making MX server as LDAP slave may not work as you have MANY LDAP'S i.e i assume each OSS and NE zimbra has its own LDAP DB on its own server. we are not talking about MULTI MIXED SERVER install..that dose not exist.

OSS and NE each one will have its on LDAP

its little tricky how you giving the END USER access to user management. We have our own CP integration and anytime user/dist. list is added or removed we update our MX mySQL..its just username and IP entry no password..

so logically if you can SYNC all your USER_NAMES and INTERNAL_IP of zimbra on the MX MySQL (inbound relay) , then you can put as many zimbra servers behind the MX as you want each one as stand alone zimbra server with its own LDAP DB

Hello,

I'm sorry to dig out this very old topic...
But I'm wondering if it's still not possible to work with a mixed Zimbra setup.
I'm interrested in providing both types of accounts, but keeping a centralized adminstration.

If it's still not possible, I'd like know what are the limitations (licencing ? technical reasons ?).
I'm sure that many of us arte interrested in mixed setup

Thanks a lot.

You can not mix NE and OSE with a single LDAP.

If by "central admin" you mean "my own tools, able to talk with either OSE or NE servers depending on the user", this might be possible.

However, some features will be difficult to implement (sharings, free/busy) and I'm not sure the time spent on "building the admin tools" and "dealing with support cases linked to sharing and co" is cheaper than going NE for every user...
