Problems after initial install

Hi guys

Interesting product. I've been using egroupware for a while and have been looking for something a little less clunky that can handle multiple domains.

I'm doing a test install with FC4 client in vmware 4.5. Got it installed.

I thought I'd do a test email by sending from the admin account to admin@localhost.localdomain. I receive the following error when I do this:

I can see the user unknown. if its the localhost, why is the user unknown.

Also when I next go and check the status I see:

Any ideas why the mta has stopped? I can stop and start everything again and the mta starts.

The clients I'm using are firefox on the server, or ie 6 on xp.

what domain did you create when you installed the system?

It's quite likely that admin@localhost.localdomain doesn't exist, or that the DNS for that domain isn't showing up right in the system.

What's in /var/log/zimbra.log from the time of the send.

For the mta not starting, you can search the forums, but I suspect that you've got another mta running - is sendmail running?

I'm not by the system at the moment, so I'll have to get back with the log running.

If sendmail is running, should I remove it from the system? I made the system fire.mydomain.com.au when I installed it, mydomain.com.au being a domain that I own, but don't currently have dns settings for. in /etc/hosts I removed references to it as it suggested during the install process leaving 127.0.0.1 with just the localhost and localhost.localdomain. I thought that I'd be able to send a test email locally. Or can't I do that because there is never an mx record for localdomain? Actually thinking about it, even if I was going to be doing a test, I should have just had admin@localdomain. hmm. should that work?

BTW to make sure I'm being clear at all I'm being literal when I'm saying localdomain, localhost etc, not using them as generic terms.

it would be easiest to avoid confusion by setting up local dns to handle all the relevant information

Yeah, I think I'll have to get a dns server up, I'll have to do it in the final build anyway, I just wanted to do some fiddling first as my dns experience is all in Windows...

I'll check the mta stuff when I get to the system again.

followed the steps and now mail works thanks. I love the tagging feature btw. Very clever.
