Mail is installed on most linux platforms. I'm willing to bet that if there is an issue, it's with mail and not with Zimbra.
Uh.

The mail command was simply supplied as a simple way to get an email to the Zimbra server, using a subject with appropriate content. As my initial post stated, it occurs from any email, from anywhere, with a subject with the content we've been discussing.

If you take a look above, you'll see that the issue occurs with various mail clients, and also occurs if one telnets into Zimbra and performs a direct SMTP dialog with the server. Also, the mail command is not being run on the Zimbra server, and the DNS lookup is only occuring from the Zimbra server.

Further, the received message is not odd in any way, when its full source is examined on the Zimbra server. This is 100%, completely and totally something occuring on the Zimbra side, that some software in the Zimbra install does whenever the subject above is used.

Anyhow, I'm waiting for my Bugzilla account email to reach me, and I'll place the bug report then.

I did have it the other way around. I thought the lookup was being performed on the client side as an MX lookup. Once the bug comes in, we'll have QA look at it.

Default Figured it out.

We think we figured it out.

This is probably a byproduct of the URL zimlet. The server looks at things based upon a regex string. rsync.ca fits the string. The lookup is performed to be able to provide a snapshot of the website.

Fair enough, but why doesn't blah.ca, or any other domain I tried (maybe 20 or so) fit the regexp?! That's what is weirding me out.

I've filed a bug report...

Bug #? Also, can you verify that if you undeploy the zimlet, it no longer happens?

Wait...

I've made sure to send emails with subjects that would _not_ be cached. The behaviour is as expected, in that the DNS lookups to occur if that is the case.

Thanks, posting this info to the bug...
