i ran into the same problem on a failed upgrade from 4.5.6 to 5.0 RC1.

my admin password didn't work.

i would love to know what password it was looking for, as i've put that drive aside to work on sometime in the next week or two.

cheers,

d.

The first thing zmcontrol starts is LDAP. In order for LDAP to bind, it needs sudo privledges.

Linux is smart about sudo. It will always ask for a password, regardless of the error condition.

I'm guessing that your sudoers file is not correct.

Take a look at this article, and see if it helps:

The solution for my problem was very easy ...

I had a file permission problem ...

* I copied my backup to /opt/zimbra
* As root I chown zimbra:zimbra /opt/zimbra/ -R
* I executed /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmfixperm

Everthing works as expected again ...
