Yes, this is my own fault. I got myself into it.
Any help getting out would be really appreciated.
I'd prefer not to lose a bunch of mail as I don't have a recent backup.
I was doing a 4.5.4 to 4.5.7 upgrade and started it when I saw a database error. I tried to quit it using Ctrl-C, and then go back and resolve the database error, but in reinstalling the original 4.5.4 packages, I think I messed up some configuration files.
In any case, if there's a way to restore the configuration for the purposes of the upgrade, I would really appreciate the help.
