Cool Error in installation: LDAP problems during installation

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Zimbra on my Ubuntu 7.04 server.
I've downloaded zcs-4.5.7 and extract it into /usr/src.
During installation I have no any problem.
During services initialization i receive the follow error:

Initializing ldap...sed: can't read /opt/zimbra/openldap/etc/openldap/slapd.conf: permission denied
Failed to start slapd. Attempting debug start to determine error.
daemon: bind(7) failed errno=98 (Address already in use)
slapd_open_listener: failed on ldap://plutone.inferi.olimpo:389

FAILED (1)

ERROR

Configuration failed

Please address the error and re-run /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsetup.pl to complete configuration

I read logfile but it doesn't contain anything more than console output.

Anyway before start installation I've stopped slapd service.

Know anyone what's my problem and help me to fix it.
Thank's everyone.

Default Bug posted

Hello,

I ran into this as well, 4.5.7, 4.5.8, and 5 RC1. I posted a bug, #20498.

You can complete the install by manually setting permissions after the Zimbra install script completes the unpacking of the .debs, but before any config is done. The bug report describes which directories I discovered as having permission issues. There may be others that haven't made themselves immediately known (since I switched back to 4.5.6).

Regards,
Adrian

Default A way to fix it

Just run zmfixperms from /opt/zimbra/libexec when you reach the step "The system will be modified - continue?"

Thanks, I actually ended up running that after manually modifying permissions during the install. I was mainly concerned with finding all the directories and files with problems, though, so I could help contribute. The reply to the bug I posted, however, just states that 6.06 is the officially supported Ubuntu release, not 6.10 (which is what I'm using). I haven't gotten any further in testing 6.06 and 6.10 in different installation senarios, but I'm interested to see if 6.06 (in the same state as my 6.10 box) installs correctly.

Thumbs up

Just for the record I was receiving the error:

Error

Code:
Failed to start slapd. Attempting debug start to determine error.
daemon: bind(7) failed errno=99 (cannot assign requested address)
slap_open_listener: failed on dap://domain.com:389
I found this was due to the dns nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf.

[Solution]

Ensure the first nameserver entry in the /etc/resolv.conf points to the IP address of the DNS server holding your Zimbra server records.

Enjoy
