Default [SOLVED] Upgrade from 4.5.6 CE to 4.5.7 CE: stats service shown as stopped

I just upgraded from 4.5.6 to 4.5.7, specifically I am now running 4.5.7_GA_1319.RHEL4_64_20070914213443 CentOS4_64 FOSS edition.

Things went smooth and there were no errors during the upgrade.

Only problem I have come across so far is that when I log in as admin and check service status, stats service is showing as not running ( red X graphic next to the service ).

Interestingly:

[zimbra@zcs ~]$ zmcontrol status
Host mail.foo.bar
antispam Running
antivirus Running
imapproxy Running
ldap Running
logger Running
mailbox Running
mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running
stats Running

I found a thread ZCS_5.0beta2 'Stats' Service where people discussed stats service issues on 5.0 beta which has the same symptoms as my issue, albeit involving a different ZCS version.

The symlink solution they suggested here centos 5 zimbra 4.5.6 no statistics I don't think is relevant to my system because the two directories they link together in that solution already exist on my system and are populated.

[zimbra@zcs ~]$ file /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/rrdtool/bin
/opt/zimbra/zimbramon/rrdtool/bin: directory

[zimbra@zcs ~]$ file /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/rrdtool-1.0.49/bin
/opt/zimbra/zimbramon/rrdtool-1.0.49/bin: directory

[zimbra@zcs ~]$ ll /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/rrdtool-1.0.49/bin

In my zimbra.log I see weird things happening in relation to the stats service.

without any errors, it sometimes shows as running and sometimes shows as stopped. I have run

tail -f /var/log/zimbra.log and captured the output over a period of several minutes. It will show stats: Running and stats: Stopped at will.

Here's an excerpt, I only removed lines relating to mail delivery from the log:

Has anyone else upgraded their 4.5.6 to 4.5.7 and seen the same issue ? Any ideas where to look next ?

Edit: I tried service zimbra stop;service zimbra start. I also rebooted the server to no avail. Since posting this thread, I am still monitoring zimbra.log and it's now consistently showing stats: Stopped every single time.

I got the exact same problem with zcs-4.5.7_GA_1319.UBUNTU6.tgz running on Ubuntu 6.06.1 Server Edition (i386).

Maybe a different issue then ?!

Did you look at the two links I referenced in my original post? Perhaps the suggestions in these two threads could work for you.

centos 5 zimbra 4.5.6 no statistics

I have looked at those threads and that is not the problem. My /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/rrdtool/bin is populated just as yours are. Otherwise my problem are identical to yours.

zmcontrol status shows stats to be running, the web interface and /var/log/zimbra.log shows it not to be running. I get no stats generated in the web admin interface. Something seems broken in 4.5.7 independent of any potential upgrade problems.

I was secretly hoping that

It signifies that we are onto something and it's probably not just my individual install.

I will poke around tomorrow and see if I can find any cause. Will let you know if I find anything meaningful.

I've got exactly the same behavior

- red cross next to the stats service in the admin webinterface
- 'zmcontrol status' tells that every service is running
- graphs are not updated

after my upgrade from 4.5.6 build 1044 Ubuntu6 on Ubuntu Server 7.04 (feisty) to 4.5.7 build 1319 Ubuntu6.

I realized that the stats are still gathered. I ran a 'zmgengraphs' and the graphs were updated with reasonable values.

I tried to manually start (or stop, then start) 'zmstatsctl' without success.

Any solutions in the meantime?

Tom

Here it did not decide, I find that it is BUG as well as that they had been not yet decided…

When I run zmgengraphs, it does populate all the graphs except what's under the "Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus Activity" tab. Not sure if it's failure to generate graphs based on amavisd data is a separate issue or related.

Edit: The bug I logged turned out to be a dupe of an already existing bug report #17977. Please use this link: Bug 17977 - Server Status in admin console shows incorrect info.
