Default Zimbra 4.5.6 Open Source Synchronization - It works now !

Hello everybody

New in the community, i've a good news for us !

After 3 weeks of hard work i've manage to syncronize Zimbra open-source 4.5.6 through a Funambol Client. I've installed a sync4j based webserver, compatible with all the funambol 6 clients.
I've test it with my smartphone with the Funambol client. It works well. I can synchronize all the contacts and the calendar.

The contacts are sync from zimbra to client and from client to zimbra and the same thing for the calendar. All the calendar categories are sync too.

SO NOW you can sync Zimbra open source with mobile all the mobiles, palmand pocket pc + Outlook.

It were wery difficult and i won't can make a tutorial now. I can help you to install it if you want, or install it for you on your server. Ii add that i installed it on a Ubuntu Server LTS.

I can help you to install, Personal Zimbra server if you want.

Have a good week-end
Thanks

Edouard

Edouard,

Can we document the proccess up the wiki? I am running 5.0 right now, and can test it against that version.

We're having a bit of fight on the french forum arround this.

Edouard does not seem to want to share his tools, because he considers "sharing is the base" and we (I, because I ask him to publish his tool) do not share anything with him.

He doesn't want people to be able to resell his "tool" and all that he's ready to do is "help people to set it up, once by once". But "it's out of the question to give it to all, like that".

No wiki article, no "howto", he's too tired from his three weeks work.

That's a great job by Edouard to get it working.

Hardly a community spirited response. What, exactly, does he want us to share with him? He's already got Zimbra (for free) - a massive project by any standards. BTW, that's my personal opinion.

Default Congrats!

Doud, congratulations!!

I am a "happy" zimbra open source user since January, I decided to go for it because its was the coolest .... but there is a "but"... the syncronization.... and the solution that zimbra gives to users like me to take a hosted version if I want to sync with mobile devices does not satisfy me, and I bet that does not satisfy freaks like me who host zimbra at home for themselves and for their friends.
Believe me, sometimes I'm tempted of looking in a different solution just because of this reason (Open-Xchange : Home, Scalix: Linux Email, Calendaring and Messaging Platform ...)

There are a set of users like me, who would change zimbra for something else before going for a hosted version... but I guess, and I undestand that we are not the kind of users that zimbra is after.

I am happy to see that finally someone got funambol to work with zimbra."open source"...

If you decide to share it with the community it would be nice...

Congratulations! doud.
By the way, funambol does not support real push...

this is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. zimbra has given him an entire collaboration suite for free, the whole point of opensource and the surrounding community is to share what you've done. this is a pathetic attitude.
