Default Email clients?

Alright, i got Zimbra OSS installed and working on SLES10 SP1 (it appears, tho, i have not rebooted). I can login as admin to the admin console, create users and config the admin panel. I can then login, via webUI, as user and send email, no problems. I then try to setup my thunderbird email client that runs on SLED10 and i can not connect to imap and cannot send mail using t-bird. I have also tried outlook, same problem. Outlook gives these errors:
unable to download folder (null) and
connection to server is refused
Checked the firewall and connections to the zimbra server are being passed through to the correct server.
The config of the zimbra server, as it stands now, are local auth, no TLS/SSL and cleartext. Ports #'s are correct. Confused.......Why would this not work with imap? This is a new install nothing has been done except TLS/SSL disabled and users created. Works from the webUI but not from an email client

what do you exactly mean with
Quote:
no TLS/SSL and cleartext
. So how are the users of web client validated against the server?

and is your IMAP port open for sure?

and what domains do you have in your server?
