Hey guys,

From within the Zimbra Admin console, you can select the View Online Help tab on the left side of the screen, then click the About Zimbra Version button.

- or -

From the command line, while logged in as the zimbra user, you can the following command type:

zmcontrol -v

be sure to add it to your profile in the forms so we don't have to ask each time...
(user cp>edit profile> additional information > zimbra version)

More methods to find it listed here too: http://www.zimbra.com/forums/announc...sion-info.html

~~~
Plus, version sometimes makes a difference on what commands we give, available options that you can take based on Open Source vs Network Edition, or better yet we may have already implemented a feature your requesting in a newer release. (It also saves time having to ask in the future.)
How to check your version?
Note: Not all these methods are possible in the desktop client, but that also has multiple 'about' links.
Several quick methods for server editions:
A) Preferred, via the command line:
Code:
su - zimbra
zmcontrol -v
B) In the main search bar of the advanced (AJAX) web-client enter:
Code:
$set:get version
C) Visit server.domain.com/downloads/index.html in your browser.
D) Code:
more /opt/zimbra/.install_history
E) Code:
telnet server.domain.com 143
A001 ID NIL
OR Code:
openssl s_client -connect server.domain.com:993
(More or less info available depending on true/false setting of zimbra[Protocol]ExposeVersionOnBanner.)
F) Send yourself an email from the web-client, 'show original' and check the X-Mailer: header.
G) Admin console help, about ZCS version.
H) server.domain.com/js/zimbraMail/share/model/ZmSettings.js
Then simply go to http://www.zimbra.com/forums/profile.php?do=editprofile about halfway down the page 'additional information' > Zimbra Version/OS blank.
(Be sure to enter the whole string in the provided box, as it contains important build data. Or add it to your signature.)
Great instructions .... er, but they give 2 different answers on my system.
The Admin GUI says:
Version 5.0.9_GA_2533.UBUNTU8_64.FOSS Aug 14, 2008
AND the cmd prompt says:
Release 5.0.18_GA_3011.UBUNTU8_64 UBUNTU8_64 FOSS edition
Which is correct?
I've been trying to upgrade to 5.0.18 for the last month, but LDAP/Cert issues have force us to fall back every time.
They should both give the same version number, I guess you've somehow got a corrupted or partially updated system.
Understood ... er, and expected. Which version is "more correct?" Can we force the "newest" reported ($ zmcontrol -v) back to the older value to force the re-upgrades? The databases are definitely on 5.0.9 (based on the upgrade process messages).
We did a fresh install (OS and Zimbra) about 2 weeks ago to migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit (v5.0.9). After fighting the LDAP config for a few hours (we've installed samba/posix extensions), we got that version working. We are very careful about never mixing /opt files between versions, but some very small parts of zimbra get stored elsewhere, it seems.
Lots of little issues come up with every install and upgrade. Generally, it takes 5+ practice attempts on a different VM before the real attempt is successful. Most of it is our fault since we elected to use the Zimbra LDAP as our main LDAP. I think that was a poor choice now and would never do it again. We were lazy a year ago.
