Question ZD doesn't start up on win 7 home 64bit

ZD won't start and no error message

-Added the 127.0.0.1 to the hosts file.
-I installed the Zimbra Desktop zdesktop_2_0_b10580_win32.msi as local admin.
-Installed in default dir (C:\Program Files (x86)\Zimbra)

-reboot
ZD won't start and no error message

-startup as admin the console
-started ZD with ...\cscript .."...zdrun.vbs")
error: "couldnot start service..."

Is there a Howto for win7 home 64bit installation?
What kind of service should be present (yahoo, Zimbra..?)
will this work?

Exactly the same problem with Win 7 Pro x64, no program start (appears to flicker in start bar) and no error message.

That might come as a surprise to my 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate, ZD 2.x seems to be running quite well for me in that environment. Although ZD 2.x is currently a 32bit application there should be no problem in running it on a 64bit o/s, even Windows can cope with that.

Not the best screen capture but I believe you should be able to see the relevant information.

Thanks for the screenie. Did you do anything different in the install - amend the default directory? I've exhausted my options, and I dont have time for what I thought would be a fairly painless process.

We are new customers and I was referring to the setup PDF (APM0114 Zimbra Set-Up v1 0.pdf) which on page 9 states "Please note that the Zimbra Desktop is not supported under 64 Bit Windows." Our office works in a 64bit environment - we should've paid more attention to setup documentation before making a decision!

Seems that similar posts about Win 7 on these boards that issues remain... despite other people saying they have no problem.

Tried a workaround suggested here ZD2 b10580_win32.msi on Win7 64bit not starting but no joy.

If not, I guess we'll just wait in hope that a future release solves it.

The fact it's 'not supported' doesn't mean it won't run - all my machines are 64bit and my normal workstation is a 64bit openSUSE and ZD 2 works fine on that.

As far as Windows is concerned you may encounter problems if you have any firewall/ant-virus/anti-spyware/anti-malware programs running at the time of installation. This isn't peculiar to ZD but those applications may cause problems with other software, I'd suggest you disable all of them before you do the install and try again with ZD 2 and see if that helps (it shouldn't make any difference but I'd also uninstall the current version first). To answer your question, no I haven't done anything specific to install ZD on the Win 7 machine I've just installed it as a normal user - initially the ZD 2 beta versions and then the GA and all of them were just upgrades.

If that doesn't work then I don't really know what else to suggest other than heading over to bugzilla )link at the top of this page) and filing a bug/RFE report for 64bit support (search to see if there's already one filed).

Zimbra Desktop zdesktop_2_0_b10580 starts and runs perfectly on my Windows 7 Home 64bit computer. But for months I could never get version 2 to run on my Vista 64. Using information from these forums I created two batch files and placed them on my desktop:

Batch #1: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zimbra\Zimbra Desktop\win32\zdesktop.exe" "C:\Users\<my name here>\AppData\Local\Zimbra\Zimbra Desktop\conf\zdesktop.conf"

Batch #2: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zimbra\Zimbra Desktop\win32\zdrun.vbs"

After running these files in order, Zimbra will run. When I placed both commands in a single batch file, the second command would not run.
I have been using this startup method for a few weeks now, without a single startup problem.

Try it, Stephen

Zimbra Desktop zdesktop_2_0_1_b10659 doesn't start on Windows 7 x64.
Log file show something like this:
Quote:
0 INFO [main] log - Logging to org.slf4j.impl.Log4jLoggerAdapter(org.mortbay.log) via org.mortbay.log.Slf4jLog
152 WARN [main] log - FATAL@file:/C:/Users/Mike%20&%20Cris.../etc/jetty.xml line:70 col:29 : org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference.
153 WARN [main] log - EXCEPTION
I think the problem is related to my user name which contains " & ".
Is there a way to change where ZD saves the AppData related folders?

Regards,
Mike
