SMTP server settings query

Hi, I've just downloaded and installed ZDS 2. Running on Mepis Linux.

I've filled in all the account details (I've tried pop and imap as my host provides both) but I'm having a problem with the SMTP server setting. My host tells me to set it as "relay.mysitename.co.uk" and port 980 using my mailbox username and password. When I click "Validate and Save" then wait it fails with "Timeout when connecting to "SMTP server". Please check host/port and network connectivity." I notice that in the status bar, while it's trying to validate is shows "Waiting for 127.0.0.1"

Any ideas?
