Default [SOLVED] problem starting and upgrading

My zimbra desktop is not starting properly. Just see the three symbols repeating.

When I try downloading the newest desktop and start the upgrade process, it tells me a zimbra desktop background process is still running and to stop it, then restart the upgrade. However, I can't find any background process zimbra desktop might be associated with in the process table and I get the message even after rebooting.

Obviously, the background process the upgrade installer finds is also preventing the z desktop from initializing.

Can anyone point me in the proper direction to correct this?

Thanks,

Mark

Default Re: problem starting and upgrading

Hi Mark,

I got the same thing when upgrading. I don't know why, but it works if I do following things:
- uninstall the previous version first (remember, DON'T check DELETE ALL DATA option,
so you don't have to resync mailbox from the scratch).
- if uninstalling is still failed, stop the zdesktop (you can read this for detail procedures) then try to uninstall again.
- install the new version.

Hope this helps.

Felis,

Thanks for the reply, but, I did that. The new version is now not installing, and won't give me details why.

There is log file at <installation dir>/log/zdesktop.log.
Besides, in what step does the installer stop working? We might find a clue from the last step.

I think you could also try to reinstall previous version of installer. If it works, then the problem is in the latest version installer.

Default It now installs but ...

OK, after doing all kinds of refreshes of the OS (Ubuntu Jaunty 64bit) Zimbra Desktop installs.

The problem is now, when I try to configure it for the server (ZCS OSE 5.0 - haven't upgraded to 6 yet), I am constantly getting this error message:

"http://hostname/service/soap/" host not found. Please check hostname and network connectivity.

In the already installed systems (all Jaunty, including a couple of other 64bit versions) the hostname worked.

The only difference is I've installed desktop 1.0.3

Is that making a difference? Should I uninstall it and try 1.0.2?

I did see that and did use that to help resolve the question. The question I have is why 1.0.3 doesn't resolve as it did before. What we have now is a working work around.

Thanks.
