Email setup

Wondering if it is possible to set up my home pop mail account while I am away from home and connected to another account?

I am currently travelling and away from my home and would like to setup Zimbra on my laptop. However, when I input the POP and SMTP data it keeps telling me it cannot access the smtp server. I'm wondering if it is possible to set up my pop account when I am using a public internet access not from my home?
