The problem is now resolved. However, it was not by reinstalling Zimbra. I had already tried that three to four times. I had reinstalled Zimbra after uninstalling it manually by executing the uninstall program, reinstalled and allowed the new installation to detect the old one and uninstalled and installed by new installer etc. Nothing helped.
What finally helped this time around was reinstalling Windows XP SP3.
I read somewhere that Zimbra installation on Windows works fine. I have a separate experience as each and every time (I repeat, almost
each and every time) there was a new release of Zimbra, I had to try installing Zimbra at least three to four times before the service will start properly. I do not know what the problem is but there is some for sure somewhere. It is annoying at best as finally after reinstalling few times, it does start. Also, it has nothing to do with Windows XP SP3 as most of the times, I used to install it on my laptop which is running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. Only after the missing yahoo server mail symptom disappeared, did I start using Zimbra regularly on my desktop and it was at that point of time when I faced the problem on the desktop (Windows XP SP3).
