[SOLVED] Spell Checker not working IE or FireFOX
FYI, have been succesful in migrating everything from Outlook 2003 to ZWC. Very Nice client app 8-) Only struggle now is spell checker.
Surprising enough the Zimbra Desktop spell checker wss not installed or configured by default. Tried IE as defualt (which has Google Spell Check AND HTML Editor set to word). Tried Firefox 3.0.1 as default with Spell Checker Enabled. FYI teh zimbra spellchecker.css is on my local file system.
Searched Forums for several hours no, but only found how to add a different language AND some Bugzilla bugs for version 1 and 2, I'm FF 3?? Seems ZWC wants to use my browser spell checker, but NO icon when composing mail or appointnments either in ZWC
Validated that language packs (US and GB) are installed and my user_prefs are correct in both prefernce files.
Anyone install/fix spell checker for Zimbra Desktop client yet?
Where is the install location
While you can choose to install to any folder on your computer, the default location is under the home directory of your system. In particular, these are the default paths on their respective platforms.
* Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Zimbra\zdesktop
* Windows Vista - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Zimbra\zdesktop
* Mac OS - /Users/<username>/zimbra/zdesktop
* Linux - /home/<username>/zimbra/zdesktop
In the rest of this FAQ we will refer to the install location as <install>.
How to install spell checker dictionaries?
YZD includes one default spell checker dictionary of U.S. English (en-US). You may follow these steps to install dictionaries in other locales we support.
(1) Download the dictionaries from these links:

(2) Unzip the dictionary package to the "dictionaries" directory. Depending on which OS you are running, the directory location is:
* Windows: <install>\win32\prism\xulrunner\dictionaries
* MacOS: <install>/macos/prism/Prism.app/Contents/Frameworks/XUL.framework/dictionaries
* Linux: <install>/linux/prism/xulrunner/dictionaries
(3) Edit <install>/profile/user.js file and set correct locale to "spellchecker.dictionary" user preference. For example, if you want to use U.K. English dictionary, you should have this line in your user.js:
user_pref("spellchecker.dictionary", "en-GB");
Other Useful Preferences
First, a note: these prefs generally have no UI in the Preferences/Options dialog, and must be set differently.
UPDATE: In Mozilla 1.4 or later, it is possible to edit the preferences normally stored in user.js by using the UI displayed by entering about:config in the Location Bar; this feature didn't exist when most of this document was written. This is convenient for small edits, and takes effect immediately (no need to restart Mozilla). A menu option ([Tools]-[Advanced Preferences]) brings up a similar editor in thunderbird as well.
Normal prefs are kept in prefs.js in the user's profile directory (which is overwritten by Mozilla every time a pref is changed), but here's a tip: prefs or other JavaScript that you don't want overwritten (e.g. comments) can be put in a file called user.js in the same directory, which is under the user's control and is read but never written by Mozilla.
One caution with using user.js: prefs set to non-default values in user.js are also written to prefs.js, so removing or commenting out pref settings in user.js doesn't necessarily cause Mozilla to stop using your previous pref setting. If you change user.js and aren't getting the results you expect, be sure to check prefs.js to make sure it isn't setting a conflicting value.
