1) can i copy derby store and index files and save them on e.g. my desktop and then uninstall via the add/delete windows program?
2) if i can't use the add/delete can i do a system restore to uninstall zimbra. can i copy derby store and index to my desktop first?
3) if 1 or 2 is succesful (i.e. i copy the three files, and then manage to uninstall or restore) if i then reinstalled zimbra and moved those 3 files back into zimbra would i still have my emails??

failing the above, how can i easily delete zimbra from my pc? (with or without saving my emails)
The answer is yes. Make sure you only copy those folders when the backend service process is shutdown. Also make sure the new install is to the exact same location. Please follow the following steps:

1) Shutdown backend process
2) Back up those 3 folders
3) Uninstall, or if that fails manullay uninstall Zimbra Desktop
4) Make sure the install folder is complete empty
5) Reboot if on windows
6) Make a brand new install into the same folder
7) Shutdown backend process
8) Replace the 3 folders in new install with your backup
9) Run

There's no need to be rude to someone that's trying to help you, please desist.

i've been going round in circles having to keep repeating questions since page 1.

i feel that i've been patient. i installed zimbra and after a week (or less) it stopped working. That's truly dire. However, i've continued to try to sort it out and asked questions. I've explained that i'm not an advanced user and don't know how to do everything (however, i used to be a computer programmer).

I've persisted so that i can use the system - which initially looked good. Continuing use of a beta system that is being trialled by people like me, allows you to continue development and keeps your costs down (as opposed to hiring people in house who would test it and who would require paying for it). You should therefore be helping me more, rather than hindering me.

Frequently, i ask questions and get responses that are not suitable. This last response was after i asked essentially the same question which provided the same response (i.e. go to FAQ number which was previously posted). However, i've already responded that it doesn't work/i don't understand it. Ergo, we're going round in circles. It's hardly being rude.

If you think that's rude, and i should desist then so be it. It doesn't help your cause, nor ingratiate you with others. As a business, you really need to go out of your way to help people (even when you think they're rude, wrong, or whatever).

"The customer is always right". Especially one that is HELPING YOU debug a program by finding errors. Simply put BETA testing is a cheap way for people like me to help you. I don't expect to be treated poorly and given obfuscating responses.

Thanks.

Finally, to put this into context, i've gone back and checked my records. Zimbra worked for 3 days without issue. I've now been using this 'help' forum for 7-days. In other words, it has taken, so far, more than twice the time that zimbra worked for someone to help fix it.

Make of that, what you will!

I can understand your frustration and I'm sorry you're having problems but the comment still stands, there's no need to be rude to people on the forums however frustrating your experience is. The 'going round in circles', wasn't the problem it was trhis: " can you read???????????? ". jjzhuang has a lot on his plate and he's trying to help you. Don't forget that people posting on these forums do it in their spare time and that includes staff.
