Default Install Zimbra on 8.10 no desktop icon???

Hi

I have been looking for a program like this one for a long time.

I just installed the latest version of Zimbra and I have just synced to several Email accounts. Great tool.

However ....
1) during the installation, a Zimbra desktop icon should have been installed
I cant find a Zimbra desktp icon...

2) I tried to start manually Zimbra by using:
- .zdesktop start => error no such command (translated)
- /home/marc/zimbra/zdesktop/zdesktop start => error "appending output to `nohup.out'"

Especially the second one puzzels me, as I am connected and synced

So please help me finding my Zimbra desktop icon :-)

I would love to have this tool working after a reboot, I now have to do a reinstall :-(

If this is for Zimbra Desktop you've posted it in the wrong forum, I'll move it for you.

At the end of the installation, did you see that last installation dialog that has a check box for "Launch Y! Zimbra Desktop"?

Also can you attach .install4j/installation.log here?

Yes I did, if I memory serves me right, the box was already selected.

Sure but I cant find the file :-( Here should it be??

During the search I found in /zdesktop/linux the "EZ" icon. When I double clicked it.....it worked

Another question...how can I autostart EZ (at boot) and run in the background??

Default How did you install Zimbra Desktop on Ubuntu 8.10?

Hi,

I'd be happy if only the icon's missing.. can you enlighten me how you managed to install Zimbra Desktop on Ubuntu 8.10? There's no package, only reports of probs with manual installs and the folks here don't care about current OSes - only LTS versions. :-(

So - pls. share the secret..
Thanks - Bachi

I am trying to backtrace my steps, this is the following what I did:

1) Downloaded the linux version on Yahoo! Zimbra Desktop

* as a normal user*
2) made the file executable: chmod 755 zdesktop_0_92_build_1418_linux_i686.sh

3) run the file: ./zdesktop_0_92_build_1418_linux_i686.sh
pls note the . before the /

4) in my case no desktop icon was made, so I made one.

thats it..it runs like a charm.
Only two items are missing:
- possibility to autostart in the background (dont know how)
- Zimbra doesnt install itself in the Aplication menu (minor detail)

Let me know if this helps

It's a surprise that there's no desktop icon. We do create one.

There's no auto-start on linux. Also we are not doing menu integration yet.

I think (hope) I can make it autostart in Linux, but it needs to start "minimized" / in the back ground. Is this possible.???

I think I had the same problem. When you install 8.10 and atleast choose swedish as main language you get a desktop folder in your language. I found the Zimbra desktop icon in the original english desktop folder. Whether is did exist before or if Zimbra made it I dont know. But icons there does not show up in my "localized" desktop.

Happy hollidays!

Mike
