Same error with gmail account.
tried manually too.
It works with thunderbird and outlook.

For everyone who's having setup issues, most likely it's misconfiguration. Please file a bug and attach zdesktop.out from <install>/log.

Note that zdesktop differs from clients like Thunderbird as zdesktop requires SMTP settings as well at account setup time. SMTP failure will cause server checks to fail.

I too am experiencing this error when I am trying to set up zimbra with gmail. I would appreciate any advice. I tried enabling SSL for both incoming and outgoing with no luck. I have triple checked all my settings and tried a few non standard configurations. Here are a couple of screenshots of my settings. Any help would be great.

OK, please file a bug with zdesktop.out from under <install>/log. You can mark zdesktop.out as private attachment when filing the bug. The log does not contain any password, but will tell us what's wrong with the setup.

I have the same problem with mine. I just downloaded Zimbra and I have Microsoft Outlook 07 configured and running.

Any suggestions?

I was not able to add an account hosted at MediaTemple (GridServer) until I switched it to SSL.
