Unhappy POP3 setup

I am a new user, coming from Thunderbird on XP. I have added my Yahoo and Gmail accounts successfully and synced mail from them. When I try to set up my mail account, [my domain name hosted by Network Solutions], I see a status error. In the mailbox.log, I see:

2008-07-25 00:58:45,687 INFO [sync-timer-lee@impulsesystems.com] [] datasource - Importing data.
2008-07-25 00:58:45,687 INFO [sync-timer-lee@impulsesystems.com] [] offline - sync connection down: Lee ImPulse

In zdesktop.out, I see:
S: -ERR authorization first
C: STLS
S: -ERR authorization first
C: USER lee@impulsesystems.com
S: +OK
C: PASS <password>
S: +OK
C: CAPA
S: -ERR unimplemented
C: STAT
S: +OK 26 1522336

I am still able to receive email in Thunderbird, so I know it is not a problem with the email server. I have used the same [server/username/password] account settings as in Thunderbird, so I am looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Lee

/ETA now I see another log entry:
2008-07-25 11:06:53,156 ERROR [btpool0-25]
....
com.zimbra.common.service.ServiceException: system failure: POP3 server must support UIDL extension

I am not sure what UIDL means.

same here with a freemail account on gmx.net
would be cool if there was a checkbox to disable it and risk getting mails multiple times (that is what UIDL should prevent), it may be possible that this happens only when you select to leave the messages on the server, but tbh i don't really want to try

Excellent. Many thanks. I asked my domain host about it and got no help.

I am having problems setting a pop3 account with zimbra installed on Kubuntu 8.04 / 8.10.

Gmail accounts work fine but my pop3 account which works on various Thunderbird / kmail / kontact installs does not want to install with zimbra.
I get this:
Quote:
Dienstfehler. Überprüfen Sie Ihre Servereinstellungen, die Mail-Adresse, das Passwort oder ggf. den IMAP-Zugang.
Which basically means: check your server settings, email address, password or IMAP account.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Fintan

Edit:
I just did a install for Hardy (no intrepid yet) from the repos. and get this when setting up a pop3 account:
Quote:
system failure: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
Ayn ideas?

Thank you but that is not it.

I have set up this mail account many times on other apps (TB, kontact, evolution) and smtp.quicknet.ch is not all that difficult to remember

are there any log files I can look at or post?
