Default Foresight Linux Install

Hi, I am unable to install onto my Foresight distribution of Linux. The other documentation that I was able to locate for Linux was not helpful with my platform.

Does anyone have Foresight with the Zimbra Desktop installed and can you offer any advice or any documentation on how to get it set up and running. Many of the packages that are recommended for the SUSE distribution are not available for Foresight.

I really miss my Zimbra client that I used on my Windows machine and would be very grateful for any advice that anyone can offer.

Thanks in advance,

Danielle

Hi Danielle,

I'm running right now Zimbra Desktop on Foresight Linux 2.

Grab the .sh installer and install it on your $HOME directory - it JustWorks(TM)

Thank you for your help. Though, I am still having trouble with installing the application. When I try to execute the install from my HOME directory and I continued to receive a "Permission Denied". I therefore promoted myself to the root user and still received the same error.

Any words of wisdom? Or is there possible a different install that i should be using?

Current install file: zdesktop_0_84_build_1119_linux_i686.sh

Thanks again for all of your help.

Danielle

You should make the .sh executable:

$ chmod +x zdesktop_0_84_build_1119_linux_i686.sh

Now you can start the installer

I was able to get it installed by using the following command:

$s sh zdesktop_0_84_build_1119_linux_i686.sh

It did generate some errors however the app. still seems to run just fine.

Thank you for all of your help!

Okay, now I'm starting to feel a little stupid. After the install, I was prompted to start the application and it worked great. However, now I can't seem to figure out how to launch the app. again.

Can you provide the command to launch it so that I can use Zimbra again as I'm apparently a little slower then I anticipated.

Hm.

The installer should have created the .desktop file on you desktop, but you still need to start the Zimbra Desktop service. I start it with my GNOME session (System -> Preference -> Sessions). I added a new starting program with the following line:

Code:
/where/you/unpacked/your/zimbra/zdesktop/zdesktop start
